What Does the Free Disney Genie Include?
The first and most obvious question about Disney Genie would be what the heck is it. The video below does a pretty good job covering most of your bases.
But if you want the fast facts, here’s a quick rundown of what Disney Genie does:
- 🧞 You Already Have the Lamp
- Disney Genie is built into the My Disney Experience and the Disneyland apps

- As opposed to the paid Disney Genie+ service

- Tell Genie your must-do attractions, dining, and entertainment as well as your interests (e.g., Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, etc.)

Guide to Disney Genie+ and How to Use It

Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Attraction Selection are all conveniently baked into the My Disney Experience and the Disneyland apps. That means you’ll just need to download those—like you haven’t already, c’mon—and see how it works within the app.
While Disney Genie is available to peruse at any time, Disney Genie+ and Individual Attractions are only available to purchase on the day of your visit, and can no longer be bought in advance of your trip. Disney Genie+ can be purchased at midnight the first day of your trip. As for Individual Attraction Selections, timing varies.
At Disney World:
- You can purchase up to two Individual Attraction Selections per day
- You do not have to have purchased Disney Genie+ to purchase an Individual Attraction Selection
- Guests of Disney World hotels can make their first selection at 7AM; guests not staying on-property need to wait until park open.
- Pricing varies based on date and availability
At Disneyland:
- You can purchase up to two Individual Attraction Selections per day
- You do not have to have purchased Disney Genie+ to purchase an Individual Attraction Selection
- All guests can make their first selection once they are inside the park
- Pricing varies based on date and availability
What Does Disney Genie+ Include?

Disney Genie+ includes access to Disney Genie+ (which you can purchase per-day to skip the line through Lightning Lanes), as well as access to special PhotoPass AR Lenses.
Now, how much does it cost? It varies. The cost of Disney Genie+ will vary based on the date you visit. Slower periods of time will be less expensive, and busier days (think holidays and spring break) will be the most expensive. The starting prices are:
- Genie+ cost starts at $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort
- Genie+ cost starts at $25 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort.

So what about if you want to reserve a place in line? Upgrade to the paid Disney Genie+ service. Disney Genie+ and the Individual Attraction Selections option combine to replace FastPass+, FastPass, and MaxPass (although it’s important to note that you do NOT need to purchase Genie+ to have access to Individual Attraction Selections). At Disney World, guests can ask the Genie to queue up AR Lenses to enhance the in-park experience. This is especially cool for those of you who are all about taking photos at the parks.As of March 2023, Genie+ now includes attraction photos with your purchase as well.
At Disneyland, Unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads will be available to guests who purchase Disney Genie+.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Genie+ work for Annual Passholders?
If you’re an Annual Passholder, there’s good news and bad news. The good news: Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Attraction Selections all work the same for you as they do for all other park guests.
The bad news? As of now, these new features all work the same for you as they do for all other park guests. At this time, Disney has not announced any discounts or additional perks for Annual Passholders.
How Does Disney Genie Work for Resort Stays?
Like if you’re an Annual Passholder, Disney Genie works the same for you if you’ve booked a stay at a Disney Resort hotel. However! You’ll have an added perk if you’re staying at a select hotel and decide to purchase Disney Genie+ and/or an Individual Attraction Selection.
Guests staying at any WDW Resort, as well as the Swan, Dolphin, and Shades of Green will have the first crack at selecting attractions. You canreserve your first spot through Disney Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections at 7AM.
How Do You Use Genie for Park Hopping?
Good news if you’re a Park Hopper: Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Attraction Selections were made with you in mind.
You can make Lightning Lane selections at multiple parks, letting you hop to your heart’s content. Hop! You’ll be able to make plans for more than one park. Just rode Frozen Ever After? While you head to the front of EPCOT, go ahead and consult Genie to get your Lightning Lane for Haunted Mansion before you’ve even hit the monorail.
