Do you need a reservation for Disney after 2PM?
You don't need a parks pass reservation for any parks you visit after 2PM after you visit your first park, however you do need to start your day at that first park with a parks pass reservation. You cannot simply show up at any park after 2PM if you haven't first used a park pass reservation to visit a park.
Availability can change until a reservation is finalized. A park reservation must be made for each day of entry. If you have a multi-day ticket or Magic Key pass, you will be required to make a park reservation for each date of your visit.
If you're running a wee bit late, there's no need to worry. Disney's policy is that they will typically hold your reservation up until 15 minutes after your scheduled dining time.
What you can do is check the Disneyland Theme Park Availability Calendar until your arrival date to see if a reservation opens up. I want you to know that the availability calendar is dynamic. This means when a Guest cancels a reservation, another Guest CAN snag that open reservation immediately.
The first park you visit on a given day will require a parks pass reservation. If you don't have a parks pass reservation for a park, it can't be your first park of the day. If you don't have a parks pass reservation for any park, you can't visit the parks at all, even after 2PM.
They must enter that first park, no matter how late in the day, before they can hop to another park, which can't be done earlier than 2 pm each day. Now, making a reservation for the second park isn't necessary if it's after 2 pm, but Disney notes that rule can change.

The fee is currently $10 per person for missing your reservation, though prices are subject to change at any time. If I'm lost in the magic of the day and realize I'm not going to make it to my dining reservation, I use the My Disney Experience App to cancel or modify my reservation.
Sometimes life happens and Guests may be unable to make it to a park reservation and didn't get a chance to cancel the reservation by 11:59 PM the previous night. If that should be the case for a theme park ticket, a new reservation may be booked for that ticket after midnight of the date of the missed reservation.
Sadly, if Disneyland is sold out, your only option is to wait and see if someone else cancels so you can get their spot. But, if you can't visit Disneyland on the day you want, you can always just try out some of the other great attractions that Southern California has to offer.

The "120-minute rule" allows you to book a Genie+ LL for later in the day -- but if it's more than 120 minutes away, you don't have to wait to redeem that LL. You simply wait 120 minutes and can book another Genie+ LL. Both MaxPass and FastPass+ had similar policies.

First thing in the morning is the best time to visit Disneyland, even on crowded days. When you're one of the first arrivals, you can walk into Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park up to a certain point where Cast Members monitor ropes that keep people from going further into the parks.

Nearly everything at Disneyland is walkable. Our two parks face each other, with Downtown Disney to the west and the off-site hotels to the east, for the most part. Disneyland Resort Hotels are west just past Downtown Disney.

Even if you're hopping after 2PM, you still have to scan into the first park. There isn't a minimum amount of time you have to spend in your first park, so you can, in theory, scan into your first park, then immediately turn around to go to your next one.
