Norfolk is nearly surrounded by water: it sits at the mouth of the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and the junction of the Elizabeth and James Rivers.
In fact, sea levels around the English coast are forecast to be around 35cm higher by 2050. According to the journal Oceans And Coastal Management, some of the areas at risk of being underwater include Happisburgh in Norfolk, Filey in North Yorkshire, and Camber in East Sussex.

The study found that Norfolk and Virginia Beach are sinking at greater than 3.5 millimeters per year, with substantial local variability and particular hotspots.
North Norfolk could be among the worst hit areas in England by rising sea levels, according to a new study by Norwich-based researchers. Experts at the University of East Anglia have said nearly 200,000 homes and businesses in England are at risk of being lost by the 2050s.
The Norfolk coast has been eroding steadily for almost 5000 years, but predicted sea-level rise and increased frequency of extreme weather due to climate change are massively accelerating the retreat.

August 27-28, 1998 (Bonnie): This hurricane formed in the tropical Atlantic before recurving to move over the Outer Banks. Portsmouth gusted to 63 mph while the pressure fell to 29.53". Virginia doesn't have a megadrought like some parts of the United States, but it has water problems all the same: Homes and businesses in the Hampton Roads region, in the southeastern corner of the state, are drawing groundwater faster than it can be replenished.
How will climate change affect Virginia?
As the planet continues to warm from the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the temperatures that we consider to be normal are also rising. By 2050, the typical number of heat wave days in Virginia is projected to increase from more than 10 to nearly 60 days a year.
The Chesapeake Bay is rising. Since Captain John Smith settled what is now the U.S. city of Jamestown, Virginia, near the shores of the Chesapeake in the 1600s, the bay has risen 0.9 meters (three feet). This rise in sea level has drowned many islands where small fishing communities once thrived.
